文学批评标准的变化,是以文学的发展为基础的,同时又反映着一个时代对文学的新的审美要求。因此,一个时代的新的文学批评标准,往往就成为文学进入一个新的发展时期的标志和推动文学继续向前发展的一种动力。中国古代文学发展到明中叶,又进入了一个新的发展时期,它开始挣脱理学的桎梏,以从来没有过的民主精神和文学特质,深入到更为广阔的社会生活中去,从文学内容到创作方法,从文学样式到表现技巧,都发生了深刻的变化,得到了明显的发展。可以说,这是中国文学史上的又一次解放,而在这次文学解放当中,最自觉的部分,因而也是最集中的表现,就是文学批评标准的转折。
