The effects of pulse current treatment on the size, shape and type of primary carbides during the solidification process of the hypereutectic high chromium cast iron were studied by means of optical microscope and XRD. The results show that the pulse current can refine the primary carbides and eutectic carbides in the hypereutectic high chromium cast iron, and the primary carbides transform from long rod to regular block. The effect of pulse current on primary carbides in different temperature ranges is different. The pulse current treatment above the liquidus of alloy (1360 ~ 1337 ℃) is more conducive to the refinement of primary carbides, the refining effect is the best, followed by the whole process of solidification 1360 ~ 1276 ℃), the liquid-solid interval treatment is the worst (1337 ~ 1276 ℃).
