Usually we only know the ice formed by water, but there is also a white ice that resembles ordinary ice and uses a wider range of smoke; this is solid carbon dioxide (CO2), which is dry ice. Its temperature is minus 79 degrees Celsius. There are fewer people who know the advantages of dry ice, and even fewer people know that they can use all sorts of waste to make dry ice economically. The first time carbon dioxide was manufactured in 1780, it had no practical use other than to understand some of the physical properties of this gas. It was not until 1879 that people knew about its practical use.
