In the use of least-squares regression to program volume tables, the authors studied the use of weights and determined the importance of assuming homogeneity in tree volume variances. This theory and its related issues have been explained by Cunia (1964). The authors used some of the 340 Pseu-dotsuga menziesii (Mirb) Franco strains with a DBH greater than 10 inches from the mainland of British Columbia to study some of the linear and non-weighted regression solutions. In terms of estimating the accuracy of various experimental equations, the authors compared the estimated standard errors expressed in terms of percentage of average volume (see table).
