Sun and Wingra Technologies, an e-mail maker, have reached an agreement that will enable IS managers to combine their Sun Internet Mail Server (SIMS) with e-mail platforms such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange. Sun Microsystems has looked to Wingra for a migration tool that will enable SIMS to connect with Exchange, Notes, and Novell Group Wise. This Wingra software will help Sun servers coexist better with other e-mail environments. Jan Eddy, president of Wingra, said: “Sun believes SIMS will not be the only e-mail platform that knows it must co-exist with at least several other systems in an IT organization.” Sun said the migration through Wingra’s gateway The combination with directory synchronization services will provide a migration path from other e-mail platforms to SIMS. Sun said IT organizations that are comfortable with their e-mail platform but want it to be more scalable can insert SIMS as the backbone of electronic messaging.
