从图腾时代到现代文明,人类历经千辛,忍辱负重,走向生命的完满与终结。在这样一个伟大的历程里,人类在多大程度上仰仗于文学艺术的力量,难以断言。但人们越来越清楚意识到,文学艺术从它产生的那一时刻起,对于人类就不是可有可无的东西。石器时代已经过去四百代了,人们的经验和观念发生了很大变化,每一道历史的裂痕都在文学艺术上留下特殊的印记。然而,人类的敏感性在某些重大的、根本的转变面前,往往感到茫然无措。尽管如此,人们依然看到现代的文学艺术早已越过传统的警戒线,以非常不同的审美进向而“误入”歧途。于是,一部分人感到迷惘、沮丧;另一部分人则在振奋中激动不已。不管如何,现代艺术作为强大的“文化流”席卷了人们的生活,因而,也只有将其放大到世界历史的文化格局里,才有可能体察到现代艺术精神的实质。
From the totem era to modern civilization, humankind has experienced thousands of hardships, boredom and humiliation to the fulfillment and termination of life. In such a great journey, it is difficult to assert that to what extent mankind depends on the power of literature and art. But people are becoming more aware of the fact that literary arts are not dispensable to human beings from the very moment when they are created. Four hundred generations have passed since the Stone Age, and people’s experiences and concepts have undergone great changes. Every historical rift has left a special mark on the literature and art. However, the sensitivity of human beings is often overwhelmed by some major and fundamental changes. In spite of this, people still see that modern literature and art has long crossed the traditional warning line and has “gone astray” in a very different aesthetic direction. As a result, some people feel confused and frustrated; others are thrilled with excitement. However, modern art swept people’s lives as a powerful “cultural flow.” Therefore, only by amplifying it into the cultural pattern of world history can it be possible to perceive the essence of modern artistic spirit.
