在科学界,取得一个科学家公民资格的所有品质中,我认为作为科学家的责任感应置于首位。一个科学家可能才华横溢、富于想象、双手灵巧、造诣很深、宽宏大量或心胸狭窄。但如果他不负责任,他就不怎么象是位科学家。科学责任感的实质就是一种内在的驱动力,也就是内心对探明事物真相的迫切要求:直到他已这样做了他才满意;充分而诚实地表白自已的保留意见;并且随时准备承认错误。
Of all the qualities that qualify as a scientist citizen in the scientific community, I think the sense of responsibility as a scientist should come first. A scientist may be talented, imaginative, dexterous, accomplished, generous or narrow-minded. But if he is not responsible, he does not feel like a scientist. The essence of the sense of scientific responsibility is an intrinsic driving force, which is the urgent requirement of the heart to ascertain the truth of things: he is not satisfied until he has done so; fully and honestly gives his own reservations; and stands ready to admit mistakes.
