沙眼是危害人民健康较严重的一种眼病。据我市的工矿工地农村等十三个单位进行沙眼普查普治资料的分析统计:患病率为65.9％,致盲率为1.44％,而沙眼的合并症又以农村为最高,内翻倒睫为12.1％,有沙眼的人轻的经常感到不舒适,重的影响视力,甚至造成失明而丧失生产能力,因此积极防治和消灭沙眼,对保障人民健康;促进社会主义建设事业有着重要的意义。
