苦荬菜别名苦麻菜、山莴苣、鸭子食等,属菊科一年生或越年生草本植物。种子为瘦果,种子成熟时呈紫黑色,其上有一束白色冠毛。苦荬菜是一种高产、优质、适应性强、适口性好的优良饲料作物,是猪、鹅、鸭、鸡、兔等喜食的叶菜类青饲料。其再生性强,一年可刈割多次,极具推广价值。可是由于过去是随便到田野去挖苦荬菜,而没有采集种子种植,其产量不高。因此为改变这种传统状况,我们于1993年在田间野外采集苦荬菜种子,从中清选出9kg在我县草籽场进
