In order to understand the AIDS-related knowledge and attitudes of the medical students in the lower grades and their opinions on AIDS prevention among the undergraduates, in June 1997, 266 freshmen (aged 16-23, 130 males, 136 females) conducted a survey. The survey shows that due to the widespread coverage of AIDS in the mass media in recent years, freshmen have a general understanding of AIDS but can not correctly judge whether the proportion of AIDS patients can be vaccinated, mosquito bites, toilets sharing, About 69%, 48%, 38% and 30%; knowing that the proper use of condoms can reduce the risk of HIV infection by 67%. This suggests that strengthening AIDS prevention education among first-year undergraduates should clarify misunderstandings and be of great importance in protecting themselves from the AIDS threat and in controlling the AIDS epidemic in the whole society.
