Long-wavelength multi-mode systems with a repeater spacing of more than 10Km and a data rate of 140Mbit s ~ (-1) are being installed in the United Kingdom (U.K.). To achieve longer trunk lines and higher data rates, the bandwidth of multimode fiber becomes a serious issue and a single-mode system must be used. This system requires a stable, high-power, reliable laser source. This article discusses the performance of simple diffusion strips and advanced multi-filled buried heterostructure lasers for single-mode fiber systems. The former, utilizing Schottky TiPdAu contacts and integrated gold heat sinks, provides a simple and reliable laser for early systems, while the latter has a low threshold current and outputs very high for stable single-transverse mode operation for future systems Provides an advanced structure. This paper describes the operation of two kinds of lasers in 140Mbit s ~ (-1) and 30Km lines, and discusses the application of the two lasers in future systems.
