The U.S. 19th Squadron consists of five “retaliation” bombers and 14 pilots. Four aircraft are piloted by student pilots, and Captain Charles Taylor captain takes the plane and takes them to fly. At 5 p.m. on December 5, 1945, five aircraft took off from the Naval Air Station in Florida, carrying enough gas for six hours on board. 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the base received a signal from Taylor for help. The plane did not return as planned, but continued to fly northeast, farther and farther from the mainland. After the last signal the base received was at 7 o’clock, it is clear that the aircraft continued to fly deep into the Atlantic Ocean until it ran out of fuel. Pilots may try to crash over the sea, but fail in the dark.
