Halofestralin has been recommended as a therapeutic drug for multiple resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum and clinical trials have shown that it is effective in both semi-immunized and non-immunized falciparum malaria patients. In addition, some Sudan strains are less sensitive to mefloquine and resistant strains also develop with mefloquine.
