有关敦煌壁画的书籍画册出版了很多,做一本“不一样”的敦煌书是本书最基本的设计构想。在敦煌,矿物颜料在泥土壁面上历经几百上千年的吸收沉淀,加上某些矿物颜料的化学反应,使得壁画的色彩奇妙无比,艳丽的颜色也没了“火气”——时间,也是无形的艺术家呀!但要在画册中再现这样的色彩,实在是太难了。为此设计师曾专程赴敦煌,对大部分图片做了现场比对和校色。同时对纸张的适印等方面又做了大量的试验和筛选。最终选定雅典产的羊绒纸作为该书的内页用纸。它的印刷效果、精神与气质是最接近壁画的。
