中华人民共和国国务院1984年2月27日颁布的《关于在我国统一实行法定计量单位的命令》中规定:“我国的计量单位一律采用《中华人民共和国法定计量单位》。……过云颁布的有关规定,与本命令有抵触的,以本命令为准。”1984年6月1日文化部出版局、国家计量局关于贯彻《中华人民共和国法定计量单位》的联合通知中明确指出:自1986年起,新出版的科技书刊、再版的出版物,一律采用法定计量单位。 法定计量单位是政府以法令的形式明确规定采用的计量单位,各行各业都必须遵照采用的单位。它具有国家法律的权威性。
