龙眼自定植后第3～4年开始试产,至30年生左右进入盛果期,这一漫长岁月,虽能花开满树,但由于雄花多,雌花少,结实率低,产量不高.泉州双阳华侨农场于1964年前后共定植龙眼1329亩(全场有龙眼3275亩)树冠早已封行,树势发育十分健壮,十年前便开始投产,直至1980年,每逢大年,平均亩产仅200斤左右,小年亩产还不足100斤.1981年我们对龙眼不同生物学年龄时期的花性比例进一步作了观察,观察结果表明,随着树龄的增长,雌花所占百分比逐步增多,1980年,在5～8年生幼龄树有的穗雌花比例
