“黑脸张飞”从何而来隋唐民间木偶戏给张飞画了历史像。“身长八尺,豹头环眼,燕颔虎须,声若巨雷,势如奔马。”《三国演义》中对于张飞的一段经典描绘流传广泛。最早出现张飞有胡须且不同于常人胡须的记载,并非正史,乃隋唐民间流行的一种文艺形式,叫水上木偶戏。张飞的木偶形象是一撮撮横在脸上的胡须,以至于孩子们看到了感觉滑稽。李商隐用诗歌生动地记录了这一情景“:或谑张飞胡,或笑邓艾吃。”
