The seismic sounding-refraction wave method (ГСЗ-МПВ) oceanographic research done by the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Azov Sea, the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea during 1957-2004 provided a wealth of information about its deep structure.
