武警交通第三支队组建于1969年9月,隶属于武警交通第一总队,负有参与国(边)防公路建设和维稳处突的双重职能,拥有多臂钻、锚杆台车、挖掘机、推土机、压路机、平地机、万能压力机等机械设备200多台(套),1998年4月通过ISO9002国际质量体系认证,属国家一级施工企业。自1986年以来,支以在自然条件十分恶劣、地质条件复杂多变的青藏、川藏线承担工程任务中,广大官兵发扬“特别能吃苦、特别能忍耐、特别能战斗”的奉献精神,战严寒、斗酷暑,在无数次与洪水、雪崩、塌方的斗争中屡创奇迹,并严要求高标准完成了施工任务,交出了一项又一项优质工程,为祖国西南边陲的交通建设,立下了不朽的功勋。1997年3月,支队一中队、五中队被团中央、国家计委、建设部、交通部等十大部委联合命名为“青年文明号”单位;2000年支队在冷曲河抢险中,因作风硬、攻坚强、成本低、速度快,经武警总部批准荣立集体三等功。 1993年以来,支队积极拓展内地市场,抢抓西部大开发机遇,充分发挥“人才、技术、装备优势和政治、组织、纪律、优势、打头阵、立头功、创佳绩、树形象,先后在四川、山东、重庆、内蒙、湖南等省市参加了二十多项国家重点高等级公路工程建设,多次被西藏、山东、重庆交通厅评为工程质量管理先进单位。
