台湾工业技术研究院电子工业研究所(简称工研院电子所——EPSO/ITRI)成立于1974年。该所成立多年来一直从事微电子器件的新技术、新产品和新工艺的研究与开发,并把研究与开发的新技术成果转让、移植和成立衍生微电子器件制造公司等工作,在台湾微电子工业的发展史上起着关键性的作用,立下了汗马功劳。从工研院电子所派生出来的半导体制造公司有:1979年成立的台湾第一家设计与制造IC的公司——联华电子(UMC)、1987年成立的台湾第一家6英寸硅圆片制造公司——台湾集成电路制造公司(TSMC)和1994年成立的台湾第一家8英寸硅圆片公司——世界先进半导体公司(Vanguard)。以上三家公司都是以工研院电子所的技术与人才为基础创建的,后两家公司还承接了电子所当时拥有的最先进的硅圆片制造厂及设备。在协助建立台湾半导体产业并
Taiwan Institute of Industrial Technology Institute of Electronics Industry (referred to as Institute of Electronics - EPSO / ITRI) was established in 1974. The institute has been engaged in the research and development of new technologies, new products and new technologies of microelectronic devices for many years. It has also transferred the achievements of new technologies in research and development, transplanted and established derivative microelectronic device manufacturing companies. The history of the electronics industry plays a key role, made a contribution. Semiconductor manufacturing companies derived from ITRI include the first Taiwanese company that designed and manufactured ICs in 1979 - UMC, the first 6-inch silicon wafer in Taiwan established in 1987, Manufacturing company - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Taiwan’s first 8-inch silicon wafer company founded in 1994 - the world’s leading semiconductor company (Vanguard).
