The authors used fluorescent retrograde labeling combined with acetylcholinesterase histochemistry to study the brainstem origin of acetylcholinesterase-positive fibers in the nucleus accumbens of rats. Fluorescent tracer dihydrochloride 4,6-bisamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) or primrose (Pr) was injected into one of the nucleus accumbens. Diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP) was intramuscularly administered 6 to 8 hours before sacrifice.
