Taiwan is the island of the motherland, located in the southeastern margin of the continental shelf of the motherland. It covers an area of about 36,000 square kilometers, equivalent to 0.375% of the motherland’s mainland and a population of about 21.3 million, equivalent to one-sixtieth of the mainland’s motherland.
