3 Global crustal thickness The global crustal thickness isogram (Figure 6) shows a bimodal scale of crustal thickness. The thickness of the crust in the ocean basin is 6 ~ 7km (excluding the 4 ~ 5km water layer), while the average thickness of the continental part is 39.7km. In the ocean a continent
