Objective To observe the changes of peripheral blood costimulatory molecules CD80 and CD86 in children with hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD). Methods 55 cases of hand-foot-mouth disease were divided into general group (30 cases) and severe-severe group (25 cases). Twenty healthy children were used as control. Flow cytometry was used to detect the relative counts of CD80 cells and CD86 cells in 75 pediatric peripheral anticoagulant whole blood. Results The percentage of CD80 cells (F = 53.032, P = 0.000) and the percentage of CD86 cells (25.188, P = 0.000) in peripheral blood of HFMD patients were significantly different between the two groups. There was significant difference between the control group and the common group and the severe and severe group (P <0.001). There was no significant difference between the common group and the severe and severe group (P> 0.05). Conclusions CD80 and CD86 costimulatory molecules are involved in the pathogenesis of HFMD.
