虽然M16/M4的大部分部件均可左右手操作,但至目前为止,卸弹匣的动作却只能靠右手完成。许多用户认为这无关紧要,但对左撇子射手而言,情况就不一样了。而且有时正常射手也需要用左手卸弹匣,如右手或右胳膊负伤,或避免暴露位置等。另外,如能左右手操作弹匣,将会加快更换弹匣的速度,这也意味着能在战斗中保障射手的生命。 过去曾有过供左手使用的M16/M4的弹匣扣,但其功能不太完善。最近,美国诺根公司研制出了一种称为“灵巧锁”(Ambi—Catch TM)的弹匣扣,解决了M16/M4弹匣拆卸的左右手操作问题。
