色氨酸是一种人体必需氨基酸,正常成人约需3 mg/kg/d。色氨酸对于维持细胞内核蛋白体的功能,以及作为烟酸、5-羟色胺等的前体,在生理上具有重要的功能。通常认为,体内色氨酸过多对人体具有一定的毒性,口服吸收后可通过血脑屏障进入脑组织,使脑组织中吲哚胺浓度升高,从而出现各种神经症状。一般脑组织中吲哚胺的浓度和血清色氨酸浓度相平行,而血清色氨酸的浓度又取决于色氨酸的摄入量和肝脏内色氨酸2、3-双加氧酶的活性。因此,肝脏损害时可发生色氨酸代谢障碍,从而引起各种神经、精神症状。
