《禮記·少儀》“尊壺者面其鼻”之文,應是禮樂人員的操作規範.今人對之的注譯存在各種分歧.對所謂“鼻”,注家或不作具體解釋,或釋爲壺嘴,或云是人臉紋飾中的鼻,或稱是壺肚上的獸面裝飾.本文徵之盛酒器實物及宴樂圖刻紋,認爲“壺肚上的獸面裝飾”一説相對近實.商周銅罍的下腹部有一個獸首形環鼻,應即所謂“尊鼻”.戰國時罍被(鐳)取代了,(鐳)無鼻,“尊壺者面其鼻”這個操作規範隨之失效.“尊壺者”應指設置酒壺者,“尊與壺”、“設尊、設壺的人”甚至“以尊代壺”等解釋都不確切.“面其鼻”是以尊鼻向外之意.因史料有限,舊儒對設尊者、酌酒者朝向的幾種推測都不圓滿,只能存疑.
