兰州局地处西北交通枢纽。目前除兰青、干武线外,其他各线的运能均已饱和或趋于饱和,与“八五”计划运量相比,缺口很大。自1986年以来,陇海、兰新线一直以运能定运量,天水和疏勒河分界口已经成为限制口,制约着西北各省区资源的开发和外运。根据“八五”计划纲要和亚欧新海大陆桥的建成,今后西部经济的发展将有一个飞跃。兰州局东通路虽已安排增修宝中线和兰新双线,计划包兰电化,设想宝兰增修双线等项目,但近年内如不立即采取应急措施,将严重影响西北以至东部地区的经济发展。
