Professor John Goligher died in January 1998, at the age of 85. Because of his long-standing collaboration with the ileostomy association (ia), members deeply miss his job. He played an important role when ia North Division was established in 1957 and served as chairman for 31 years until his retirement in 1986. Due to the full realization of the significance of his work, Professor Goligher was elected an honorary member of the 1978 National Committee. Professor Goligher was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, studied at the University of Edinburgh and became a medical doctor in 1934
