二○○○年十二月二十日,中国书法界盼望已久的中国书法家协会第四次全国代表大会在北京隆重召开。中共中央政治局委员、书记处书记、中宣部部长丁关根,二十一日下午看望了出席中国书法家协会第四次代表大会的全体代表,他希望书法艺术家继承传统、博采众长,推陈出新,不断提高书法艺术水平。丁关根向参加这次书法界盛会的代表们表示问候,向书法界老一辈艺术家表示诚挚敬意,向刚刚当选的全体理事和主席团成员表示祝贺。他在讲话中说:
On December 20, 2000, the fourth Chinese National Calligraphers Association, the long-awaited Chinese calligrapher’s association, was grandly held in Beijing. Ding Guangen, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Central Propaganda Department, visited all the delegates attending the Fourth Congress of the Chinese Calligraphers Association on the afternoon of 21st. He hoped that the calligraphic artists would inherit the tradition, learn from others, create new ones and improve continuously Calligraphy art level. Ding Guangen expressed his greetings to the delegates attending the calligraphy congregation, extended his sincere tribute to the older artists in the calligraphy community and congratulated the newly elected members and the presidium.
