广州状元坊曾经有“戏服一条街”的美名,其实也就是“刺绣一条街”。在戏服制作鼎盛的年代,状元坊内布满了戏服制作的手工作坊。那时候的手工作坊都是家庭式的,而且很多都是传统的西关大院模样。靠近街边的底层,是售卖的店铺;往里、往上,就是一个家庭所有成员的居所。人们在这安居乐业,一代传一代。斗转星移,经过多年的变迁,状元坊已经从旧时的戏服街(刺绣街)变成了学生用品、小商品专业街,经营内容虽然发生了变化,但繁华喧闹、人头攒动却是从古到今依然不变。
