Since the reform and opening up, the linkages between China and the world economy are getting closer and closer. As a large country with a population of more than 1.1 billion, it is becoming a pivotal member of the international trading system. According to the statistics of the Customs, in 1992, China’s total import and export volume reached 165.63 billion U.S. dollars, up 22.1% over 1991 and ranking the 11th among the major trading nations and regions in the world. Recently, our country has also put forth the slogan of “striving to become a trading nation,” further expanding its international trade and economic relations and diversifying its market to become an important strategic decision. The development of economic and trade relations with the Eastern European region is also one of the key points that can not be ignored in the blueprint for the diversification of the market in our country. This article tries to make a preliminary discussion on the current situation, development prospects and problems of the economic and trade relations between China and the Eastern European countries.
