本文为美国索引协会资深索引家彼得·鲁尼先生发表在该协会网站上的介绍性文章。作者曾任该协会第一任执行秘书;2004年曾获得该协会球茎甘蓝勋章;2005年10月26-28日曾与该协会现任主席理查德·施罗特先生一同来中国参加在上海复旦大学召开的“2005年中国索引学会年会暨学术研讨会”。他在文章中简单介绍了美国索引协会的产生和发展史,概述了该协会与英国索引家协会的关系,还指出了索引协会在成长壮大过程中所不可或缺的一些支持。该文对于迎来20年华诞的中国索引学会的发展在某些方面也许会有参考借鉴作用。
This article is an introductory essay by Peter Rooney, a senior indexer of the American Index Association, published on the association’s website. The author served as the first executive secretary of the Association; in 2004 won the club kohlrabi medal; October 26-28, 2005 with the association’s current Chairman Richard Schrott to China to participate in Shanghai Fudan University held “2005 China Index Society Annual Conference and Symposium ”. In his essay, he briefly introduced the birth and development of the American Index Association, outlined its relationship with the British Index Association, and pointed out some of the indispensable support for the Index Association in its growth and expansion. The article may provide reference for the development of China Indexing Society, which celebrates its 20 years of existence, in some aspects.
