《新唐书·狄仁杰列传》记载,狄仁杰以地官侍郎代行宰相之职时。武则天问他:“卿在汝南有善政,然有谮卿者,欲知之乎?”谢曰:“陛下以为过,臣当改之;以为无过,臣之幸也。谮者乃不愿知。”大意是你在汝南有政绩,但有说你坏话的,你想知道吗?狄仁杰说,陛下认为我有过,我就改掉;认为我没有过,这是我的大幸。说坏话的人我不想知道。武则天感慨地说,狄仁杰是位厚道的长者啊!
