On February 22, 2012, the National Science and Technology Commission released the “National Advanced Manufacturing Strategic Plan,” based on a White Paper entitled “Ensuring US Advanced Manufacturing Leadership” issued by the President’s Council for Science and Technology Advisory Council (PCAST) in June 2011, In response to the spirit of the United States Competition Reauthorization Act, the guidelines are used to guide the federal government in its support of advanced manufacturing research and development programs and initiatives. The strategic plan has clearly defined the important role of advanced manufacturing in ensuring the economic advantages and national security in the United States. It has analyzed the current mode of advanced manufacturing in the United States, its future trends, and the opportunities and challenges it faces. Five strategic goals have been put forward.
