新型大功率交流传动的机车动车．有必要设计一种以定向应用的新型驱动装置，以达到长期使用而无需维修保养的目的。为此，AEG公司铁路分部开发了一种GEALAIF驱动装置。在此，交流异步牵引电动机和牵引传动齿轮箱构成了一个紧凑而封闭的单元，它具有最佳的牵引力传递路线、新的冷却空气通路和新的轴承结构。其中驱动装置由现有的大功率驱动装置中成熟的结构元件和新开发的部件组成，其目的在于提高功率利用率，同时大大改善磨损部件的使用寿命。
