I. INTRODUCTION The presence of iron-containing objects makes the magnetic field in the background superimposed on a fixed magnetic field. In principle, accurately measuring the spatial variation of a magnetic field (often called a magnetic signature) can determine the location and nature of the iron-bearing object.
