教育活动与人类历史一样久远,它因人类的产生而产生,又随着人类社会的发展而发展。人类在从事漫长的教育过程中,积累了丰富的经验,这种教育实践活动经验上升到理论,其结晶就是教育科学。教育科学是研究教育活动规律的各门教育学科的总称。在教育科学的孕育、形成和发展过程中,既产生了研究教育规律的基础学科——教育学科,又相继出现了研究教育领域某一方面规律的各门教育学科,诸如教育哲学、教育心理学、教育社会学、教育经济学、教育统计学、教育管理学等等各分支教育学科。教育情报学是教育科学领域的一门新兴的学科,它的产生、形成和广阔的发展前景有其历史的、现实的基础和客观的、迫切的需要。
