Top 5 Publishing Companies in the United States Share Large Book Sales The 2004 book sales study of 63,000 small publishing companies by the American Book Industry Research Institute showed that their total sales were $ 14.2 billion. Of the total, 1.15 billion came from small publishing companies of 1 million U.S. dollars and 49.9 million U.S. dollars, while the largest five U.S. publishing companies performed well.
