Farewell to Modernism was an influential article at the time published by critic Kim Levin in Arts 1979 in October 1979. In response to the many changes in the development of modern American art in the 1960s and 1970s, Kim Levine pointed out in the article that the artistic creation of the 1970s, while seemingly puzzling, marks some of the characteristics of modern art, such as ignoring tradition , Respect for science, self-referencing, and simplification, are turning to the multiple options emphasized in the art of the 1980s, namely the historic, psychological, stated, political and comprehensive postmodernist transition. The doctrine of modern art and its purity are discarded in open forms and contents, and the norms that regulate what is or may not be “art” are also subject to blatant resistance from postmodernist camps.
