在战场上,步兵战车主要用于伴随、协同主战坦克作战,世界各国涌现出不少性能优良的组合。例如,美国的“艾布拉姆斯”主战坦克和“布雷德利”步兵战车,英国“挑战者”2主战坦克和“武士”步兵战车,俄罗斯的T-90主战坦克和BMP-3步兵战车等等。德国陆军拥有世界上一流的“豹”2主战坦克,更需要一种性能极佳的步兵战车与之配合作战。现在德国陆军装备的“黄鼠狼”步兵战车是莱茵金属公司地面系统部在20世纪70年代研制的,服役期已经超过了30年。为了更新这种老式的步兵战车,德国陆军的新一代步兵战车“美洲狮”正在研制之中。德国新型“美洲狮”步兵战车将是“豹”2主战坦克最强有力的作战伙伴。
On the battlefield, infantry fighting vehicles are mainly used for accompaniment and combat with major battle tanks. Many countries in the world have shown many excellent performance combinations.
