超声检查心脏为心脏功能测定及形态学检查提供了无损伤、可靠、安全的方法。可应用于妊娠合并心脏病孕妇的检查、胎儿心脏病的诊断和雌激素对妇女心功能调节的研究。最早应用于临床的M超为单维,对心脏功能的计算简单准确;二维超声的应用使得心脏以平面图的形式展示,对了解心脏形态及空间关系更有价值;三维超声再建是在二维超声的基础上经计算机处理后再现左室立体图像,但目前仍处于研究阶段;多普勒可直接测量血流速度和方向,对分流性或瓣膜性心脏病诊断价值较大。
