According to the second issue of the United States, “Electronics”, 1978, from now until 1984, the U.S. Air Force will modernize the Alaskan fifties surveillance radar system through the Seek Igloo project. The plan’s bidders include almost all of the major US radar manufacturers. Before selecting a contractor, a six-month program demonstration is required. After the contractor is finalized, the selected contractor is responsible for all the research and development work. The Alaska Air Command’s original 13 radar stations are equipped with L band search radar AN / FPS-93, most of which are also equipped with S-band altitude radar AN / FPS-6/90. Now these radars will be replaced by Seek Igloo radars. Nine of the Seek Igloo radars are mounted on the west coast of Alaska facing the Soviet Union; the remaining four are installed in the interior. In addition to the updated system uses a three-coordinate radar to complete the search, elevation and the Federal Aviation Administration beacon
