Technology shares were soaring as stimulus week, but real investors would only aggressively invest in a smoothed stock market with the help of outside events. There were two things this month that led tech stocks to go up. One is the annual financial conference of the American Institute of Electronics (AEA), and the other is Comdex, a high-tech event. Michael Murphy, editor of the California-based technology newsletters (ATSL), sees both of these issues as moving people to their feet on 1997 questions and looking ahead to new products that may emerge in 1998. AEA’s meeting was held from November 2 to 6, with representatives of 300 technology companies and up to 3,500 technical analysts. Two weeks after the conference, a large number of new products will be on display at Comdex from November 17 to November 21.
