油桐树在我国分布很广,四川、湖南、云南、湖北、貴州、河南、安徽、浙江、广东、广西、福建、陝西等省都有栽培,其中以四川省栽培最多。从油桐的种子中,榨出的油就是桐油,是我国著名的一种特产。桐油有不怕水、不怕酸、不怕碱、不怕热、不传电、能防腐等性能,容易干燥,是优良的干性植物油。我們日常所用的雨衣、雨鞋和雨伞,还有汽車、拖拉机和飞机,它們所以能防雨和具有灿烂夺目的外表,都是由于塗了一層桐油或者以桐油为原料制成的明漆的緣故。無論是木質或金屬器具,或者是布和紙,塗上桐油都很容易干燥。桐油在电器工業中,可以作为絕緣材
