On February 19, 1997, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan issued a statement deeply saddened by the death of Deng Xiaoping, China’s outstanding leader, and expressed its deepest condolences to his family, the Chinese government and people. Annan said: Deng Xiaoping landed his mark of eternity in China’s most exciting period of history. He dedicated his entire life to his own motherland. Not only will his country keep in mind the modernization and economic development of China Designer, and the international community will cherish his memory of his great achievements.
