Objective: To detect Epstein-Barr virus capsid antigen IgA antibody (VCA-IgA) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and to analyze the correlation between EBV infection and rheumatoid arthritis. Methods: Serum VCA-IgA antibodies were detected in 92 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 80 healthy controls by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the positive rate of VCA-IgA in EBV was analyzed. Results: The positive rate of VCA-IgA antibody in patients with rheumatoid arthritis was 9.8% (9/92). The positive rate in healthy controls was 2.4% (2/85) (x2 = 4.038, P <0.05). Conclusion: The detection rate of serum VCA-IgA antibodies against EBV in patients with rheumatoid arthritis is significantly higher than that of healthy controls, suggesting that the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis is associated with EBV infection.
