现代装甲战车无论是主战坦克还是步兵战车都拥有4项主要战斗性能:火力、防护性、机动性和可指挥性。所有国家的设计师都坚持不懈致力于使装甲战车的这4项性能更加完善。如果说在设计新的战斗车辆和对老车进行现代化改进时,对后3项性能重视程度有所变化的话,那么火力在这4项指标中始终处于最优先考虑的位置。现代战场上装甲战车应该具有在最短的时间内,以最少的弹药摧毁敌目标的能力。因此装甲战车的最主要的战斗性能就是射击精度、射击速度和弹药的有效性。抓住这个关键,在完善装甲战车的战斗效能的时候就明确了方向,就能处理好装甲战车各种性能之间的关系。安装威力更大的武器也能增强坦克防护能力,原因是安装威力更强的武器能提高射程,从而提高了战车的防护能力。为此,必须重视改进战车的瞄准装置。
