In November 2000, China’s port production continued to maintain a good momentum. As of November 30, the major ports have completed a total volume of 1.506 billion tons of cargo throughput, of which foreign trade throughput 520 million tons, an increase of 19.6% and 35.4% over the same period in 1999. The throughput of major container ports is close to 17 million TEUs, up 34.8% over 1999. The top 10 rankings of cargo throughput of coastal ports in the motherland are shown in Table 1. As of November 30, the 10 major seaports had completed a total cargo throughput of 842 million tons, of which 360 million tons of foreign trade goods, up 17.7% and 39.9% respectively over the same period of 1999.
