Objective To understand the current situation of daily physical activity of primary and secondary school students in Ireland and the implementation of manual of physical activity of Irish Ministry of Children’s Health (the “Guidebook”), to explore the effect of existing physical activity on health and to formulate our country’s policy of promoting student’s health And guidelines provide the basis. Methods A total of 5 397 students from 53 primary schools and 70 secondary schools were investigated by questionnaire survey, expert interviews, experimental methods and mathematical statistics. The correlation between daily physical activity and body health index was also examined. Results 14% of children and adolescents complied with the guidelines (at least 60 minutes a day). 98% of primary school students and 93% of secondary school students participated in physical activities of not less than 60 minutes a day for 1 day and boys were better than girls. Three-quarters of students had a healthy body mass index (77%), 18% were overweight, 4% were obese and 1% were below standard weight. Three-quarters of students had a healthy blood pressure index (75%) and good aerobic capacity (77%), with a healthy index of waistline of up to 85%. Conclusions Although the survey results showed a significant positive correlation between physical activity and health index, there was no significant change in the performance of the guidelines on physical activity in Ireland investigated for at least 60 min every day between 2013 and 2009.
